The Sun Sisters

Long ago, two maidens lived on the moon.
The two sisters spent all of their days embroidering.
They had seventy-two embroidery needles!
Oh, how skillfully they used them.
People would stare up in the evenings and wonder at the maidens’ beauty.
“Look at the beautiful maidens on the moon!”
“Aren’t they lovely?”
“See how delicately they embroider?”
The maidens were very embarassed by this.
They had no privacy at all.
One day they called to their brother, who lived in the sun.
“Brother, would you change homes with us?
People are always staring at us.
We don’t like living here.”
“But at night there are few people about.
If you lived on the sun,
many people would see you during the daytime.”
“Oh no, they won’t. We have a plan.”
So the brother changed places with the sisters.
You can see the man on the moon is still there.
As for the sisters, you can never see them.
For if anyone dares look toward the sun,
they stick their needles in his eyes!
And such pain is caused by the seventy-two embroidery needles of these
maidens
that no one every looks directly at the sun.
