Daily Stories

People tell each other stories every day. They had a bad day at the office. They met Betty at the supermarket, and do you know what she said!? That’s a natural part of how people communicate to each other, but in order to advance consciously in the art of constructing metaphor, you have to become familiar with the basics first.
After you’ve figured out what stories have shaped your perception and reality since you were a kid, it is time to focus on those stories that you hear from others and the one’s you are telling now. When we tell those stories about family, school, work, and so on we are communicating a message even though we may not be conscious of it. Now I ask you to begin to be conscious of the message of your own and other people’s daily stories. What is the underlying message being communicated. After you can easily notice the message being coveyed in unconscious conversation, then it will be a simple matter to choose a message you want someone to get and weave your own story around it.
This is a simple exercise, but many so-called master NLP practitioners, hypnotherapists, salespeople, and persuasion artists don’t even have this simple skill mastered. Notice the underlying message!
